Many people happily head to their local A&E for something as simple as a sprained wrist yet they’ll hold off having treatment on chipped and infected teeth and gums until their next scheduled dental appointment.

If you’re experiencing severe tooth or gum pain or you have visible damage in your mouth, it is essential that you see a dentist as soon as possible. You should always seek urgent advice if:

  • You have cracked or fractured a tooth
  • You have lost a tooth
  • A tooth has become loose
  • You have lost a filling or crown
  • You have tooth ache which has lasted more than two days
  • Your mouth or teeth have become damaged in an acciden
  • Your teeth are fine but the tissue around your lips, tongue, or gums is wounded
  • You have a serious infection or abscess in your mouth
  • You have severe pain, swelling, or bleeding following dental treatment such as a filling or root canal therapy

If you experience any of the above dental emergencies and live in Scholes or the Leeds area, please contact Scholes Dental Care on 0113 232 3878 for an emergency appointment with our dentist.

The sooner you are seen, the better chance we have of resolving the problem before further issues can develop. If your condition is less severe, such as a small chip or mild pain, you can make a regular appointment with your dentist for their next available appointment.

If you are unsure whether you need emergency dental care, you can call Scholes Dental Care on 0113 232 3878 or alternatively the NHS 111 service.

Emergency tooth extraction

You should contact our Leeds practice as soon as possible if you believe you may need an emergency tooth extraction.

Severe tooth decay, root fractures, and abscesses can be incredibly painful, and in many cases you may need an emergency extraction to protect your other teeth.

If you are not sure whether you require emergency dental care, these are the top signs to recognise that you may need a tooth removed:

  • Severe tooth pain
  • Extreme sensitivity in a tooth
  • Painful or swollen gums
  • Darkening in a tooth
  • A bad taste in your mouth that won’t go away
  • Swelling so bad you cannot open your mouth
  • White fluid or pus coming from your gums or mouth
  • Loose or unstable teeth

When a tooth is at high risk of infection, it is often necessary to remove it as soon as possible to protect your overall health.

Call Scholes Dental Care on 0113 232 3878 to arrange an urgent appointment.
